“Six Words”The Why Behind Visible Stories

A BIT ABOUT MY STORY

Hello! My name is Katie Gay. Whether it was to document a backyard play or to convince my parents to transfer me to a public school, growing up I made the most out of our 80's household camcorder. I have long since been fascinated by the power of storytelling and film.

Fast forward to 2016 when I decided to take my videography hobby to the next level and go full time. This is when Visible Stories was born. I knew from the beginning of this journey that I didn’t want to produce just any type of video. I want to tell stories. More than anything about this craft, I absolutely love the feeling I get from translating experiences and emotions into something that can be seen and felt through the screen. This desire runs deep for me. At a core level I believe our stories connect us and we all have a story to tell. Supporting others to identify and share their unique, complex, and deeply motivated stories is the driving force behind my videography. Combine this with beautiful cinematography and I’m on cloud nine.

To help me in my journey, I have sought training in the specific art and science of story-centered videography through Muse Storytelling. In addition, I have completed a certificate program in Applied Storytelling through The Graduate Institute. These institutions provided me methods for tapping into one of the most ancient human qualities—a love for stories. I learned detailed and thorough processes for crafting stories and I apply these methods to all my productions.

The externals of a successful video will look different depending on the production type and client. However, in my opinion, the of core each video’s success is driven by the same quality—the video caused the viewer to feel something emotionally. This is what I strive for.

I love what I do. Videography isn’t just a job for me, it’s a life passion that constantly affords me the opportunity to create, connect, learn, and grow. It’s a humbling pleasure to look back at some of my earlier work and see how far I’ve come. I am excited to see where this journey takes me and who I will cross paths with along the way.
